A beautiful Lavender Optical Calcite specimen from Brazil, displaying wonderful transparency and the soft lilac colouring that gives this unusual Calcite variety its name.

This piece has a naturally geometric form with smooth cleavage faces that allow light to travel through the crystal beautifully. In brighter light, its delicate lavender tone becomes more apparent, while the interior reveals intricate natural veils, fractures and layered structures that give the specimen plenty of character without taking away from its clarity.

Optical Calcite is particularly fascinating because of its strong double refraction, an optical property that can cause objects or text viewed through a clear section of the crystal to appear doubled. This distinctive characteristic makes Calcite an interesting mineral both visually and scientifically.

At approximately 40mm, this is a lovely compact collector specimen for a mineral cabinet, crystal shelf or curated display.
