Phlogopite Mineral Specimen | Kola Peninsula, Russia

A fascinating Phlogopite mineral specimen from the Kola Peninsula, Russia, covered in a dense layer of pale, glassy crystals across a contrasting reddish-brown matrix.

The surface is incredibly detailed, with hundreds of small translucent to champagne-toned crystals creating a highly reflective, almost sugar-like sparkle. In direct light, individual crystal faces catch and flash beautifully, while subtle green mineralisation can be seen running through areas of the matrix.

Turn the specimen and its character changes completely. Some areas are densely crystallised, while others expose the rugged matrix beneath, creating pockets, ridges and small cavities throughout the piece. The contrast between the delicate crystalline surface and earthy host rock makes this a particularly interesting display specimen.

Originating from Russia's Kola Peninsula, an area renowned among mineral collectors for its remarkable geological diversity, this is a lovely locality piece for anyone drawn to unusual natural mineral formations.
