Indonesian fossilised wood forms when ancient wood becomes buried beneath sediment and undergoes a long process of mineralisation. Over time, mineral-rich groundwater can replace or fill the original organic material while preserving features of the wood's original structure and grain. Some specimens also develop delicate crystalline coatings, creating subtle sparkling highlights across the surface.
