Stilbite on Apophyllite - (Ex Collection)

A beautiful Stilbite on Apophyllite mineral specimen from India, combining soft peach-toned Stilbite with a sparkling bed of icy white to translucent Apophyllite crystals.

This is such a lovely example of the contrast between the two minerals. The Stilbite dominates the centre of the specimen in a substantial sculptural formation, with multiple creamy peach crystal growths overlapping to create a soft, almost floral appearance. Its surface has a delicate pearly lustre, catching the light without losing the natural texture of the crystal.

Surrounding the Stilbite is an abundance of white and colourless Apophyllite, including larger geometric crystal formations alongside smaller sparkling growths. The cooler, glassier appearance of the Apophyllite creates a beautiful backdrop for the warmer Stilbite and gives the specimen interest from every angle.

At approximately 100.1 × 65.6mm, this is a substantial cabinet-sized specimen with plenty of presence. Its combination of colour, contrasting crystal habits and layered natural formation makes it a particularly attractive display piece.

About Stilbite & Apophyllite

Stilbite is a member of the zeolite mineral group, well known for its distinctive crystal formations and soft white, cream, peach and salmon colouring. Its crystals commonly form in sheaf-like or clustered structures, creating the beautifully rounded and layered formations visible across this specimen.

Apophyllite is recognised for its exceptional lustre and beautifully defined crystals, which can range from transparent and colourless to white, green and other subtle shades. Its naturally glassy appearance can give specimens an almost icy quality.

Stilbite and Apophyllite are famously found together in the basalt cavities of India, particularly within the mineral-rich Deccan Traps. The cavities created within ancient volcanic rock provided the conditions for spectacular zeolite and associated mineral formations to develop.

Specimens combining peach Stilbite with clear or white Apophyllite are especially attractive because of the contrast between Stilbite's softer, rounded growth and the sharper geometric structure of Apophyllite.
