These miniature polished spheres have a wonderfully soft, luminous appearance. Each piece displays its own combination of golden colouring, delicate internal veils, fine crystalline lines and cloudy mineral formations, creating a gentle glow as light interacts with the Calcite.

Although similar in size and colouring, each sphere has its own individual character. Some display warmer honey-yellow tones, while others feature paler champagne and creamy-white sections. About the Material

Honey Calcite is a golden-yellow to amber-coloured variety of Calcite, a calcium carbonate mineral with the chemical formula CaCO3. Calcite is known for its distinctive rhombohedral cleavage, relatively low hardness and fascinating optical properties.

One of Calcite's most interesting characteristics is double refraction, also known as birefringence. This occurs when light passing through the mineral separates into two rays, potentially causing objects viewed through sufficiently transparent material to appear doubled.

This phenomenon is particularly associated with highly transparent optical-grade Calcite, historically known as Iceland Spar. In naturally cloudy or included Honey Calcite specimens, the optical effect may be less visible, although the material retains Calcite's characteristic crystalline structure.

Honey Calcite's beautiful golden colouring is associated with natural impurities and colour-producing features within the mineral. Its appearance can range from pale champagne and creamy yellow to richer honey-gold and amber shades.
